Projects in Cowlitz County

 

   
 

Sixty-five Master Gardeners turn in an average of 60 volunteer hours each year on projects, including:

  • Plant Clinics-serving over 800 clientele questions regarding gardening problems, plant identification, insect identification and other gardening related questions.

  • Fair Demonstration Garden offers practical ideas and alternatives to gardening, including gardening with butterfly attracting plants, raised beds, dwarf fruit trees, accessible gardening for the physically challenged, square foot gardening, perennial and cut flower gardens, edible plantings, and more.

  • The Compost Demonstration Site is next to the garden and features several different styles of worm composting and composting bin systems showing what works and what doesn't.

  • Gardening with children throughout the community enrolled in school enrichment, after school and home school programs.

  • Gardening classes for community adult and youth.

  • Garden articles in local newspapers.

  • Educational booths at local community events: Earth Day Celebration, Home and Garden Show.

  • Support regular Household Hazardous Waste Collection events.

  • Speakers for local community groups.

  • "Intergenerational Horticulture" program with local senior community resident
